EDMONTON - Police are looking for a purse and other items taken from a north-end house where a man was killed Thursday morning.
A large, white purse with a wallet inside was taken from the crime scene. Investigators don’t believe they will find anything unusual inside the purse.
A man in his late 20s was found dead in a home at 34th Street and 103rd Avenue early Thursday.
Police have no one in custody in relation to the homicide.
The man’s death is the city’s 17th homicide of 2011. The name and age of the man have not been released.
Police have not released details on what other items may have been taken from the home, or who the white purse belonged to.
“That’s the one item that we feel is easily identifiable,” said police spokesperson Clair Seyler.
Police have asked people in the neighbourhood to search their yards and outdoor garbage bins for the white purse and any other unusual items.
Seyler could not confirm who police think took the items from the home, or who the purse belonged to.
On Thursday, a knife was found in an SUV not far from the crime scene.
Forensics officers searched the car where the knife with a four-inch blade was found, and took pictures of the house and property at 102nd Avenue and 34th Street.
Kevin Jacobson called police to his house after his wife discovered the knife in her Hummer at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday after she returned from the grocery store.
The knife was on the floor between the passenger’s and driver’s seats.
“It was apparent that somebody else was in that vehicle. We don’t keep those kind of knives around the house,” Jacobson said.
Police cannot confirm if the knife is related to the homicide, Seyler said.
