Lennon plays the guitar solo here. And it was his preference at the time to not be on camera during his guitar solos as he was self-conscious of making a mistake.
" I have a definite style of playing - I've always had. But I was overshadowed. They call George the invisible singer. I'm the invisible guitarist." - John Lennon interview with Rolling Stone.

Lennon was just capital!!!!!! He was an amazingly unique and beautiful spirit, I spent his birthday listening to The Beatles and his solo albums, watching clips of him on youtube, I watched Imagine. We need more artist with his depth and individuality in todays music scene. It's been so deprived of true artist who express themselves with integrity and truth. We miss you John, can't wait to see "Nowhere Boy" when it comes out.

@coreyagraph They also did it without monitors, which must have been part of what forced them to harmonize so well. Regarding the eight hour sets: they were all REALLY young, and were also using a lot of amphetamines (which were over-the-counter legal in Germany at the time).
No one can crack their voice when singing and use it to their advantage except John Lennon.
Can't beat the Beatles, live or in the studio. Great scream in the middle by John, not to mention his tasty, off camera guitar solo.
