It has been more than a decade since local fans turned to the Orioles as a primary source of sports inspiration — after all, the team has had 13 straight losing seasons. But excitement is building — in no small part because of Orioles manager Buck Showalter. After he joined the team in August, the Orioles won more games in the last two months of the season than they had won in the previous four. Fans' hopes inflated further when several key players, including slugger Vladimir Guerrero and shortstop J.J. Hardy, were acquired in the offseason. The team's season opener is Friday at Tampa Bay, and the first game at Camden Yards is Monday.
