The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is honoured to welcome Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada to the site of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights
Winnipeg, Manitoba – June 14, 2010 The Board and Trustees, Senior Management and employees of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) are honoured to welcome Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada to the site of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights during her visit to Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 3, 2010.
“We are delighted that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will visit the Museum site,” said Mr. Stuart Murray, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. “Her presence and recognition of the Museum reaffirms the importance of this landmark project for Winnipeg, Canada, and the world.”
Her Majesty will be presenting the Canadian Museum for Human Rights with a stone from Runnymede, UK, the birthplace of the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta is seen by many as the precursor to modern constitutions and charters of rights and was first created in 1215. While at the site, Her Majesty will also visit with youth from across Canada who won a multi disciplinary art design challenge issued by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights called Evoke.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights was established to provide a place for Canadians, and the world, to explore and promote the subject of human rights and to encourage human rights action. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights was the first national museum created since 1967, the first ever to be located outside the National Capital Region, and is the first national museum anywhere in the world dedicated to the broad subject of human rights.
