Capri, Sorrento and back in 12 hours

Maybe I overdid it. When the Carnival Magic pulled into Naples and docked at what turned out to be a 50-store shopping centre, I had a goal. The ship was in for 12 hours, allowing us to enjoy the opportunity to see so much in one day.

A sense of The Godfather in Sicily

I woke up this morning and there, laid out right in front of me, was Messina, Sicily. Our ship — the Carnival Magic — was docked almost on the street and ahead of me as I looked straight up the hill was this city of the many churches and parks.

Rainy return inside Dubrovnik's wall

DUBROVNIK — After a day at sea, it was time for our first port, the historic Dubrovnik. The Carnival Magic was greeted by rain and wind that lasted until late afternoon. I was most enthusiastic to come back to this city, having been here many decades ago as a cub reporter, on a day off from covering a World Hockey Championships.

Best of Cuisine: Celebrity Eclipse

On their final day of 13 on the Celebrity Eclipse, my pinch-hitters and Ports and Bows colleagues Bob and Nancy Dunn of cruisingdoneright.com provide a taste of the ship's restaurants. Monday: I'll be checking in on the launch of the new Carnival Magic.

In almost two weeks, there's no excuse for not trying every restaurant available on a cruise ship that has nine and, as tough a job as it is, we felt we'd be letting Phil down if we didn't give it our best shot while crossing the Atlantic on the Eclipse.

Celebrity's Brits and the Royal Wedding

Today, my Ports and Bows colleagues Bob and Nancy Dunn from cruisingdoneright.com give the Royal Wedding an on-board preview from the ship that carried them from Miami to Europe, the Celebrity Eclipse...

There are 670 British people among the 2,778 guests on the Celebrity Eclipse as it winds down a two-week trip across the Atlantic Ocean. When they booked their passage, almost none of them knew they'd be arriving in Southampton exactly six hours before the Royal Wedding on Friday at 11 o'clock.

Celebrity Life drinking the Riedel way

In today's second report from the Celebrity Eclipse, my Ports and Bows colleagues Bob and Nancy Dunn of cruisingdoneright.com cover a Celebrity Life activity from one of the eight sea days on their Transatlantic cruise...

Would you pay $87 to learn the proper way to wash and dry wine glasses? How about if it included tasting an ounce or two of four expensive wines? What if it also included discovering which wines were suited for which of four Riedel glasses? And then you took the Riedel glasses home?
