A little automotive eye candy will be on display at the upcoming Red Deer Speed and Custom Show and Auction.
Now in its fifth year, the exhibitor show, collector-car competition and automobile auction take place at Westerner Park March 18 through 20.
Over 80 cars are expected to compete in 10 categories for the chance to win cash prizes and trophies. Spectators will also cast their votes for the coveted Peoples Choice Award. The prize for the award is $1,000.
"The car competition is an integral part of our show and continues to grow each year," says Todd Schwindt, co-owner of the Red Deer Speed and Custom Show and Electric Garage Auctions, the show's presenter.
Legendary car designer and customizer George Barris will return to the show. Barris, creator of some of the most memorable custom cars ever built -Batmobile, General Lee, KITT from TV's Knight Rider, Munstermobile, and many more -will be available to talk cars and sign autographs.
He brings with him another big name in car culture, Brett Wagner, from Speed TV's Pass Time game show, who will attend the show Saturday and Sunday.
The automobile auction should see over 150 collector cars -muscle cars, vintage automobiles, classics and exotics -hit the block over the weekend, many with no reserve, which means they sell to the highest bidder. The auction starts Friday with a rock memorabilia and automobilia theme and ends at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The show opens to the public on Friday, March 18 at 5 p.m., continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and runs from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Every $10 adult gate admission is good for all three components of the show, and for $15, fans can be a part of the action all weekend. Kids 12 and under attend for free.
