THR iPad App Support

The Hollywood Reporter iPad app delivers weekly issues of The Hollywood Reporter magazine as well as real-time web content. Download the app and follow prompts to buy the magazine content, or rotate your iPad to landscape view to access breaking movie news, TV news and data. Thumb through celebrity photo galleries, see who is winning this week’s boxoffice battle, and watch movie trailers and behind the scenes video content.

If you are experiencing problems with your Hollywood Reporter iPad app, you will find answers to the most commonly-experienced problems below:

Problem: The app is not switching between Magazine mode (portrait view) and Breaking News mode (landscape view) when I rotate it

Solution: First, ensure that your iPad orientation is not locked. The orientation lock switch is located on the side of the iPad, and an on-screen icon will indicate whether orientation is locked or not when you toggle the switch. If your orientation is not locked and you are still experiencing this issue, rotate the iPad 180 degrees from its current orientation and the screen should once again synch to iPad orientation.

Problem: Previewed or purchased magazine issue content is downloading slowly or not at all.

Solution: Make sure that you have strong wireless or 3G connectivity. You can pause and resume downloading a magazine issue at any time by tapping the ISSUES button in the lower-left corner, then tapping the arrow/x button next to the download progress bar for the issue you are currently downloading.

Problem: In-app content is frozen/non-responsive

Solution: Close the app and re-open it.

Problem: A magazine issue has been improperly downloaded and is displaying ONLY blank pages

Solution: Since issue content is stored on your iPad, you must delete and re-install the app in order to re-download the content. To do this, you must follow these steps:

1) close the app and hold your finger on the app icon in the iPad dashboard until all of the app icons begin to shake.
2) tap the x to remove the app from your iPad
3) click the Home button below the screen of your iPad to return the screen to normal
4) connect your iPad to your computer and select it in the menu on the left-hand side, under DEVICES, then click on Apps near the center-top of the screen
5) make sure that the checkbox next to "Sync Apps" is checked, and then check the box next to the THR app
6) Click "Apply" to re-sync the device and re-install the app.
7) You can then open the app and re-download the content. Regardless of the initial alert, you will not have to re-purchase any content that you had previously purchased.

Problem: I have logged into Facebook or Twitter within the app in order to share content, but I am now unable to remove the account connection.

Solution: Close the app and go into the device settings app. Select the THR app settings at the bottom of the Settings menu, and tap to turn ON the switch next to the service you want to disconnect the app from. The next time you close the THR app, you will be disconnected from that service.

Problem: I have a print and/or online subscription to The Hollywood Reporter, but I don't see a way to log in as a subscriber to receive these issues

This functionality is not currently available via the iTunes store. We are working with Apple to integrate subscriber authentication into V.2 of the app.

Problem: I don't appear to have the ability to subscribe to the magazine via iPad and have my credit card auto-billed when new issues arrive

This functionality is not currently available via the iTunes store. New issues of The Hollywood Reporter are published each Wednesday, so check back at that time each week to pick up the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
