German Screenwriter Wolfgang Kohlhaase to Receive Lifetime Achievement Lola

One of the country's most acclaimed film scribes to be honored at next month's German Film Awards.

COLOGNE, Germany – Screenwriter Wolfgang Kohlhaase (Summer in Berlin) will receive a lifetime achievement honor at next month's German Film Awards, or Lolas.

One of the country's most acclaimed film scribes, Kohlhaase began his career in East Berlin, where he penned some of the best films of the DEFA period, including Berlin - Schonhauser Corner (1957), I Was Nineteen (1968) and Solo Sunny (1980) with the country's best directors, including Gerhard Klein, Frank Beyer and Konrad Wolf.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Kohlhaase continued his success, working with Western helmers, including Volker Schlondorffon The Legend of Rita (2000) and fellow East German Andreas Dresden, whose collaborations have included Summer in Berlin (2005) and Whiskey with Vodka(2009).

Kohlhaase, who turns 80 next month, shows no sign of slowing down. He recently penned the script to the German-Chinese co-production I Phone You directed by Dan Tang, currently in post-production.

Kohlhaase will receive his honorary Lola at the gala for the 2011 German Film Awards on April 8 in Berlin.
