Apollo 18

Sci-Fi fans will be busy this weekend discussing the just-released trailer for Apollo 18. The anticipated teaser for the forthcoming film features lots of inferred alien action and has a horror film feel.

Directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, the movie centers on a secret 1973 NASA lunar mission funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. Apollo 18 was originally set for a March 4th, 2011 release. Now, The Weinstein Company's Dimension Films will debut the Timur Bekmambetov-produced film April 22nd, 2011. Bob Weinstein was sold on partially financing film after Bekmambetov showed Weinstein footage that supposedly was shot by the crew of Apollo 18. NASA has repeatedly said Apollo 18 never happened but some believe to this day the Department of Defense and NASA managed to launch a covert mission to the moon in the early 1970s (there is also this official page from NASA regarding Apollo 18, 19 and 20).

The moon-centric movie isn't the only tangentially dealing with the paranormal clip bowing today. Earlier Friday, a new teaser for Source Code (directed by Duncan Jones, who helmed Moon, ironically) dropped, augmenting a longer trailer that was released last year. The Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle explores a secret government project called "Source Code" that allows Gyllenhaal's character to project his consciousness into the body of a dead man during the last eight minutes of the person's life.

The Apollo 18 trailer can be seen here on Apple's iTunes.
