It looks like Lindsay may be heading back to the slammer after all. After rejecting a plea bargain, Lindsay was made aware of a surveillance video that showed her male friend distracting the store clerk while she slipped on the stolen necklace in question. If convicted Lindsay could spend up to three years in jail.  But Lindsay may have found someone to visit her behind bars--ex-girlfriend, Samantha Ronson. Flirty tweets between the two that allude to a sleepover suggest that they are back in each other's lives.

In the relatively short time she’s been on this planet, Lindsay Lohan has dealt with more personal struggles, professional ups and downs and attention than most can fit into a lifetime. Her well-publicized romances, family struggles and battles with drug and alcohol addiction have made her the subject of intense scrutiny and derision, and caused a major hiccup in a once-promising career.
 
DADDY ISSUES

Lindsay Denise Lohan got her start in Long Island, a suburb of New York City, the daughter of Dina Lohan, a former singer and dancer, and Michael Lohan, a former Wall Street trader and heir to his family’s pasta business. Her volatile family has been as much a source of negative press for Lohan as her own behavior. Her father served prison time for refusing to testify against his colleagues when he was accused of insider trading. It was only the beginning in a series of legal woes for the Lohan patriarch, which included a DUI, assault and violating parole. Dina, while managing to stay on the right side of the law, is also a topic of derision thanks to her poor parenting tactics—she refused to take any responsibility for Lindsay’s issues and tried to capitalize on her daughter’s fame by starring with a then-15-year-old Ali Lohan (Lindsay’s little sister) in a reality show. It’s almost no wonder that Lindsay has so many problems.
 
GROWING UP IN THE SPOTLIGHT

As a kid, Lindsay was immediately thrust into the spotlight, landing a modeling contract with Ford when she was just three. She appeared in numerous commercials and ads for children’s clothing until she landed her first acting gig in soap opera Another World when she was 10. When she was 12, she was cast to play twins in a remake of The Parent Trap. The role, which required her to simultaneously play two different characters and master an English accent, proved that she was something of an acting prodigy.
 
In 2003 and 2004, she starred in two films that exploded her to mainstream stardom—Freaky Friday and Mean Girls—which were well-received both at the box office and by critics. In December of 2004, she released an album, Speak, which sold well, but never amounted to a successful musical career (her 2006 follow-up album, A Little More Personal (Raw), had a disastrous reception). By then, Lindsay had made the successful transformation from cute, freckled child star to voluptuous, sexy starlet and the fantasy of every man in America.
 
MOVIE FLOPS AND REHAB STINTS

But just as quickly as she rocketed to fame, the pressure, constant media attention and family woes took its toll, and she started to become the source of tabloid fodder for her wild partying, tendency to get into car accidents and plummeting weight. In 2006, while filming Georgia Rule, studio exec James G. Robinson told Lohan, “We are well aware that your ongoing all night heavy partying is the real reason for your so-called ‘exhaustion,”’ in a letter regarding her multiple absences. That same year, she started attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
 
While shooting I Know Who Killed Me in early 2007, she had her first rehab stint, and over the next year, she withdrew and was booted from several productions for reasons ranging from DUI arrests, her health, her drug use, revolving door rehab stays and insurance liabilities. She canceled public appearances, admitted she was addicted to alcohol and drugs, and regularly didn’t show up for court dates. The latter led to a two-week jail stint in July 2010 and another rehab stay immediately after her release.
 
LINDSAY GOES LOCO

In 2008, her personal life became even more of a farce when, after having relationships with Aaron Carter, restaurateur Harry Morton, Calum Best, and even reportedly with Heath Ledger at the time of his death, Lindsay switched teams and started dating British DJ Samantha Ronson. Their turbulent romance, often involving screaming public fights, was well documented in the press for the next year until they split in April 2009.

In 2010, things only got worse when she spent 14 days in prison (of a 90-day sentence) after missing numerous court dates for her DUI arrests. After her release, she was ordered to undergo mandatory drug testing, which she promptly failed. It looked like our girl was headed back to prison, but a judge was lenient and sent her to the Betty Ford Clinic instead.
 
Although her behavior has made her a star we all love to hate, there’s no denying Lindsay’s got talent and we’d all like to see her kick her demons and make a comeback.
