Seth Rogen Cancer Comedy '50/50' Now Opening Sept. 30
Summit now has it up against the Fox comedy "What's Your Number?" and the Universal thriller "Dream House."
Summit Entertainment has shifted its Seth Rogen cancer comedy -- now called 50/50 -- back a week to a wide release September 30.
Based on real-life experience, the story follows a young guy's fight to beat a cancer diagnosis. The Wackness writer-director Jonathan Levine directed from a screenplay by Will Reiser. The film, which also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anjelica Huston, was once titled I'm With Cancer and Live With It.
Staring at a heavy dude-drawing weekend Sept. 23 (Abduction, Moneyball, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), Summit likely thought it had a better shot in a crowded marketplace Sept. 30 up against the female-skewing Fox comedy What's Your Number? and the Universal thriller Dream House, which stars Daniel Craig and Naomi Watts.
Rogen has voice roles in Paul, coming out in March, and Kung Fu Panda 2, opening in May.
