Two House Transportation Subcommittees held a hearing on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and the future of offshore drilling. The witnesses include two members of a Commission appointed by the President to investigate the spill. President Obama said failure to pass his agreement with Republicans on tax cuts would hurt job growth in the U.S. Those comments came before a meeting with the President’s Export Council. The Administration has set a goal of doubling exports over five years. The President also announced new guidelines for export controls on certain goods and services. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and the co-chairs of the President’s Export Council responded to reports that the House Democratic Caucus has voted to reject the agreement in its current form and spoke out strongly in favor of the agreement on tax cuts and unemployment benefits.
