Sundance Selects Grabs Rights to 'The Black Power Mixtape' (Berlin)

Sundance Selects has acquired North American rights to Göran Hugo Olsson’s The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 at the Berlin film festival. The documentary had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last month in the world cinema documentary competition.

Annika Rogell of Story AB produced the film, which explores how and why Swedish journalists came to America to document the black power movement. The film won the world editing award at Sundance.

Former ‘Sopranos’ Actor Reuniting with James Gandolfini for Film

Vincent Curatola, best known for playing mob boss Johnny Sack on The Sopranos, has been cast in the crime thriller Cogan’s Trade alongside Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini.

The film, which is being produced by the Weinstein Co. and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, will begin shooting in New Orleans later this month.

Magnolia Pictures Acquires 'One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest' LSD Documentary (Berlin)

Magnolia Pictures has picked up the North American right to Magic Trip, the documentary revolving around the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest from co-directors and co-writers Alex Gibney and Alison Ellwood.
 
Magnolia will premiere the film this summer on VOD platforms a month prior to its theatrical release as past of its Ultra VOD program. The company followed the same playbook for another Gibney movie, Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer.

The second annual Aruba International Film Festival will take place June 10-16, with writer-director-producer Claudio Masenza back in his role as artistic director.
