Notre Dame Athletics
Unveils New Logo

May 11, 2010

BALTIMORE - College of Notre Dame of Maryland unveiled its new Gator logo at its annual Athletic Department banquet on Saturday evening, May 8. College of Notre Dame’s mascot will remain as the Gator. However, the athletic department’s brand identity and logo have been updated for a newer, sleeker design which will be displayed on all College of Notre Dame athletics representations.

“One of the themes for the College of Notre Dame Athletics Department this year has been an effort to bring our department, our programs, and our athletics community together,” said Notre Dame Athletic Director Michael Spinner. “The unveiling of our new athletics logo and brand identity sends the message that while we have eight athletics programs, we are one department.”

The logo committee, which comprised of alumnae, staff and students on campus, worked hand-in-hand with Unlike Designs out of New York City to create the new, original Gator logo.

“This new logo is very unique from other institutions that use the Gator as its mascot, and it is a great new look for our department and our athletics programs,” said Spinner. “I want to thank Greg Malek and Unlike Designs for their tremendous efforts to bring our Gator to life!”

Updating the college’s Gator logo has been a priority of the department’s since Spinner arrived on campus as Athletic Director last June, and is a culmination of a very successful 2009-2010 year on and off the field for Notre Dame athletics. “This was the final major initiative of the 2009-2010 academic year. We have set the stage to follow up an amazing year with even better things next year,” noted Spinner.

On the field, College of Notre Dame had many improvements this past academic year over 2008-2009. Softball improved from one win to seven victories and had its first All-Colonial States Athletic Conference student-athletes in program history; the lacrosse team hosted a Colonial States Athletic Conference postseason tournament game; the tennis team nearly doubled its win total from the previous year; the swim team had the same amount of dual meet victories this past winter than in the previous three years combined.

Off the field, College of Notre Dame student-athlete’s have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 21st consecutive semester. Dozens of student-athlete’s have also been recognized by the CSAC for their academic achievements as well.

The new logo will be on full display throughout the College of Notre Dame athletics website within the coming days.
