Delays in delivery of recycling boxes and paper bags

Due to a problem with stock we are currently unable to deliver recycling boxes and blue paper bags to residents in the borough. We anticipate recycling boxes will be available by the middle of August and blue paper bags by early September.

Residents are advised to put their paper recycling in carrier bags and we have instructed our contractor to take these, if you do not currently have a blue bag. If you currently do not have a green box then please use a sturdy rigid plastic container or cardboard box instead.

Residents can still order the remaining containers (food waste caddy, garden waste bags or plastics sack). However if you are ordering blue bags or green boxes there will be a delay on delivery of these items.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We introduced new waste and recycling services in March 2009 following the award of a new waste and recycling contract with SITA UK. Our contract with SITA UK will run for the next 5 years.

SITA UK is responsible for the collection of all rubbish and recycling in the London Borough of Hounslow, whether you live in a house or a flat. They also provide the bulky waste collection service Tidy Town, collections of recycling from the recycling sites across the borough and clinical waste collections, for residents who are referred for this service. We continue to manage our reuse and recycling centre - Space Waye.

We now offer one of the most comprehensive recycling services in London, allowing residents who live in houses and flats to recycle a wide range of items.

Residents are now recycling over 34% of their waste, and this means that the amount of rubbish that we throw into landfill is dropping. This is great news for the environment, helping to reduce landscape destruction and loss of natural habitats and wildlife. It also helps to reduce emissions of methane, which is global warming gas with an impact 23 times stronger than carbon dioxide! Reducing and recycling your waste also helps conserve natural resources like oil, and save energy. So do your bit by recycling as much as possible.and reducing your waste.
