Zappa-looza: A full guide to the weekend's events

With the unveiling of the Frank Zappa statue slated for Sunday, Baltimore will be abuzz with Zappa-related events this weekend.

The dedication of the bust at the Southeast Anchor Library in Highlandtown is only one facet of the celebration. Zappa fever starts Saturday with an exhibit at the library and continues Sunday with a free Q&A; with Zappa's widow, Gail, and a live music lineup featuring Zappa Plays Zappa. Though the event is free, VIP passes, which start at $100, are available at missiontix.com.

Saturday, Sept 18:

10 a.m.: "Zappa's Baltimore," a new exhibit with pieces from the library's vault chronicling the city's music, arts and free speech opens at Southeast Anchor Library, 3601 Eastern Ave.

1 p.m. : "Baby Snakes," a film directed by Zappa, screens at the library's auditorium.

Sunday, Sept 19:

11 a.m.: A talk with Gail Zappa at Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Avenue.

12 p.m.: Tribute concert by local band Arbouretum

2 p.m. Dedication of the sculpture at Conkling Street and Eastern Avenue.

3 p.m.: Zappa Plays Zappa, Dweezil Zappa's tribute band, performs a two-hour set.

6 p.m.: Creative Alliance at the Patterson, 3134 Eastern Ave., hosts an afterparty, featuring Big in Japan, Telesma and DJ El Suprimo. There is a $5 cover. Call 410-276-1651 or go to creativealliance.org.
