Not a bad album, Ras Kass is just a little too preachy.....

I'm with Fernanda man, one of the best blogs around.

"a little too preachy?" typical reaction of a white male who can't bear to hear a precise dissection of how the western power structure was put into place through systematic colonization, enslavement, and propaganda. who else was rapping about anything like this in 95? much less now? top ten rap albums. period.

In response to thanksforthecrescendo: lots of people have rhymed on similar topics. Just for one nicely obscure and awesome example: Paris, "the Black Panther of Hip-Hop" (not sure why he felt that he was "the" black panther of hip-hop instead of simply a rapping black panther, but that's neither here nor there.)

In defense of "thanksforthecrescendo", he stated "white male *who*
can't bear to hear..." and not *ALL* White males. That, right there,
rather than some "power trip" or "race card" is stating things
as they is.
But since this is a volatile matter subject to rashly defensive
reactions or simplistic address, I'm gon' break it down some and
elaborate on the sh*t:
Probably not entirely, but Hiphop's characteristic defiant nature
is rooted in the African American experience and struggle
(evident
to anyone who has a decent understanding and respect of the
culture's history).
But now that it has evolved, diversified and hit mainstream,
there exist either naive tendencies or shrewd (ableit lame) attempts to
dissociate its "beat" from its conscience roots. Keepin' it pop
rather than keepin' it real ... but ain't no down ass body
tryn'a here dat sh*t - or give "PEACE!" for that matter.
Can you dig it?

Well, I presume this is what my brotha, "thanksforthecrescendo" meant.

However, I'd also wish to correct my brotha for the rather
unsubstantiated "white male" branding of the corresponding anonymous. It could have been any"thing" - including an ignorant ass brotha ... or sista (heheh)

Peace, from the Continent.
