Nefertiti was a product of the Los Angeles rap scene of the early '90s, but L.I.F.E.: Living in Fear of Extinction didn't fit any of the convenient stereotypes of L.A. rappers who emerged during that period. Nefertiti was far from a gangsta rapper, and she stayed away from commercial pop-rap. Sounding like a cross between Queen Latifah and MC Lyte...

Nefertiti's album (cassette) was always in my tape deck. She brought knowledge and self respect to da game. This MC is one of da realest and she ain't no fake like these so called rappers nowadays. Rappers don't rap no more they sang and Hip Hop Is DEAD!!!!!!!!!!

She had a part in the movie "Panther" but the movie is very hard to find. She also was featured on the "Panther" soundtrack, on a song called "Freedom". It came out around 1995/1996 and I used to be OBSESSED with both the movie and the song!

When everyone else was trying to get a leased Rolls or a rented mansion Nef asked for a special clause in her contract. After one album, no matter how well it did or not, she was guaranteed a full ride to any college of her choice. Yeah I know, Roxanne tried to say that a year ago, and when she did I thought "man, she took Nef's route".

I read in Source Magazine when the album debuted, so I'm sure its legit. Now whether the label came through and honored her contract, who knows. But her goal was to record a few albums then go to college.
