Cannibal Ox (or CanOx) is a hip hop music duo from Harlem, New York City. Its members include Vast Aire and Vordul Mega (also known as Vordul Megallah). They are generally accompanied by DJ Cip-One. The name Cannibal Ox derives from the term cannibal (one who eats its own kind), and ox (street slang for a razor blade). As such, their name points towards the metaphorical cutting up and devouring of other rappers. It is also probably a play on words referring to Umberto Lenzi's 1981 exploitation movie Cannibal Ferox. In 2001, they released their debut album, The Cold Vein, which received wide critical acclaim and drew comparisons to the 36 Chambers-era Wu-Tang Clan...

just to say:this album is the one.
very very very wellllll.
and yet i'm not fond of hip hop itself.
it's my brother who has introduced me el-p five years before and it's really, but reallyyyy, an excellent album.
you should like too "wax tailor", different but very great.

good start to a (hopefully) growing Def Jux section. Hard to imagine a relevant underground hip hop collection with so little representation from the Definitive Jux crew. Look forward to seeing more. Thanks for the connect!

I stopped listening to hip-hop around 99/00, as it began to disappoint more regularly. Your website is well presented and I've never had a problem with any file; it has therefore been of much help in introducing me not only to artists since, but also to artists I obviously slept on back then: Can Ox, Mind Tricks, Atmosphere, Man, Dope hip-hop. Thanks!

It's true, when this album came out, I couldnt believe the innovation behind it, and the darkness in the music. THis, for me, is the last album El'pee produced before he started making beats that sounded like "someone walked accross a keyboard"(7LEsoteric said that). I get what they mean...after this album, his production became a lot more innovational and original,,,,this one here is like on the halfway point between some crazy original sounds and the classic boom bap style....a perfect balance of the two makes this a timeless album, no doubt,,,,i rate it 5/5...but i hate the song raspberry fields, it's just annoying, all the rest excellent.....THe darkness in the 3rd cut is incredible with Alaska when he says "a claustrophobic neurosis in this masquerade ball of fake glasses and big noses" ,,,,, love that shit
