Description
This mouse IL-33 ELISA Ready-SET-Go! reagent set (with or without high affinity-binding microwell plates) contains the necessary reagents, buffers and diluents for performing quantitative enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). This ELISA reagent set is specifically engineered for precise measurement of mouse IL-33 protein levels from samples, including serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants.

Mouse IL-33, also known as NF-HEV and DVS 27, is a 30-kDa member of the IL-1 family produced by endothelial and epithelial cells. IL-33 plays a pro-inflammatory role in the immune system by inducing IL-5 and IL-13 and by activating basophils, eosinophils and mast cells. In addition, IL-33 decreases inflammation by interacting with IL-1 and blocking its effect. Expression of IL-33 can be upregulated by IL-1β. In addition to gastrointestinal and lung tissue, IL-33 is expressed in the central nervous system, specifically astrocytes. This cytokine is localized primarily in the nucleus where it is thought to play a role in transcriptional repression. Upon wounding or infection, IL-33 is released from the cell via an atypical secretory pathway. Necrosis-mediated release of IL-33 enables binding to ST2, a member of the IL-1 receptor family found on mast and Th2 effector cells, leading to the release of Th2 cytokines. During apoptosis, IL-33 is cleaved by caspases-3 and 7 (and most likely not caspase-1) to produce an 18-kDa fragment which is released. This cleaved form of IL-33 can bind the ST2 receptor, but no signaling events are initiated. This dual pattern of expression (nuclear and extracellular) is reminiscent of "alarmins" also known as endogeneous danger signals. Other known alarmins are IL-1a and HMGB1.
