Are bloggers journalists? Great question. It depends on how you like your news. Inverted pyramid with a slew of sources or a first-person narrative? Updated-by-the-minute or an after-the-fact-analysis? Blog posts usually fall into the latter categories — first-person narratives with a focus on analysis. Like this. Some might say bloggers have become the new “fourth estate” by taking up the slack for a faltering media, or even calling out traditional journalists for failing to do their job well. Sure, blogging is often more haphazard and less polished than traditional media, but just about any blogger can be published — making the humongous-and-growing blogosphere one of the most democratic forms of journalism ever to exist. (But yes, we know: Veracity can vary. That’s why we recommend using this handy list of tips to evaluate a source’s credibility.)

Shopping Atmosphere Can Put You In Mood To Spend
CBS Chicago - News, Sports, Weather, Traffic, and the Best of Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) – Before you begin your holiday shopping, did you ever stop and think about this: what is it about the store you go to that puts you in the mood to spend? As CBS 2’s Mary Kay Kleist reports the atmosphere inside the store — what you see, what you smell, what you hear — plays a big part in your shopping experience. Sue Labriola says she likes the atmosphere of the Macy’s on State Street. “It gets you in the mood to shop. It really gets into the whole spirit, the whole mood, the whole idea of Christmas,” she said. Macy’s on State Street is all decked out, definitely getting shoppers in the spirit. “If you’re in a good mood and the holiday atmosphere in the store puts you in a really good mood, you spend more money,” said Joel Whalen from DePaul University. The music in the store is also important. If you like the music that’s playing in the store, chances are you’re going to stay a little longer. A University of So

ERAP SELLING GREENHILLS HOUSE TO PAY DEBTS
BLOGGED!!

Former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada is selling his house in the posh Greenhills village in San Juan to pay some debts, part of them incurred during his unsuccessful bid for reelection in the May 10, 2010 elections, his son said on Thursday. “I cannot blame him. He was in jail for six and a half years, and he’s lost in the recent presidential elections. Marami rin siyang mga utang na kailangang bayaran, kaya siguro (he probably has a lot of debts to pay off so maybe that’s why) he decided to sell our property at Polk Street,” said Sen. Jinggoy Estrada in an interview. In a report published in the Philippine Star, Estrada was quoted as saying that he would use the money from the sale of his 3,000-square meter property in Polk Street for his real estate business. The younger Estrada, however, denied knowing anything about it. “I don’t know. I don’t know the plans of President Estrada,” he said. Estrada was ousted from Malacanang in 2001 over corruption charges a

Thanksgiving =)
Vasily Kirillin Blog

Today is the USA holiday Thanksgiving. It’s been a holiday since 1863. Traditionally we turkey, pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes, and cranberries. There are two really big family holidays here: Thanksgiving and Christmas. Usually, families gather together for Thanksgiving more than Christmas. So today was the busiest travel day of the year. Thanksgiving is always the third Thursday in November. It is one of my favorite times of the year =) The day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday. It is the start of the Christmas season. The stores put out the new merchandize, and offer special prices for the season. This is the part I don’t understand: why so many people will go to the stores at 4 or 5 in the morning to wait and be the first people in the store!! It’s crazy!! The men stay home and watch American football – and the women go to the stores. Have you seen a shark in a feeding frenzy? Same thing in the stores. Yeah, scary.

Improving the engine
MOYO

Before starting to work on new elements of the engine, Im fully rewriting the chunk & light systems to improve loading and rebuilding times. That wasnt a new work from scratch tough since, its basically the same thing, but designed better and optimized. The rewriting is almost done, and im very proud to see loading times have dramatically improved ! And thats great news because I was affraid id have to reduce chunk height. They are currently 512 cubes/meters tall and the loading times are very acceptable, which leaves quite some room free. Now i have to make geometry taking into account neighbors chunks and solve some light system bugs. Next big step should be some exploration on “pseudo-physic laws” for construction with blocks.

Radio Reporter McNicholas Succumbs To Cancer At 61
CBS Boston - News, Sports, Weather, Traffic and Boston's Best

BOSTON (AP) — Kevin McNicholas, a gravel-voiced radio reporter who was dean of the Statehouse press corps, died Thursday after a short fight with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. He was 61. Observer of every governor and legislator since Frank Sargent, McNicholas worked as a contract reporter for stations across Massachusetts. He also covered 11 national political conventions, the courts, Boston City Hall, the school busing crisis and the 1976 Tall Ships visit. He was known for his pleasant demeanor yet penetrating questions — a skill remarked on not just by politicians but also the oncologist who treated him since his diagnosis in September. McNicholas died on Thanksgiving Day at Massachusetts General Hospital in the company of his sister, Ann Duffy; her husband; WBZ-AM reporter Carl Stevens; and a Roman Catholic priest. “Kevin was an institution at Statehouse press conferences,” Gov. Deval Patrick said in a statement. “He was a great journalist who

Military Families Enjoy Thanksgiving At Manhattan Club
CBS New York - News, Sports, Weather, Traffic and the Best of NY

NEW YORK (CBS 2) — Imagine a Thanksgiving celebration with more than 150 people, where some have never met before, but they are made family through their service. “Come on in, come on in, you’ll enjoy it sweetheart,” said volunteer Gloria Koppie Castellano. That’s the welcome you get at the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard, and Airmen’s Club on Lexington Avenue, where military families and veterans enjoyed a true Thanksgiving meal this holiday. “I think it’s important to remember all the things that sometimes you can take for granted, that one minute you can be here and the next minute you can have orders to be stationed in Afghanistan,” said Sgt. Randy Clinton, U.S. Marine. Clinton spent many holidays away from his wife and children and all you have to do is look at his daughter’s smile to know what it means to have her father home. For many at the Club, military service runs in the blood. Ivan Pel

A Must See Remember Reagan Video by Human Events
The Bader Nation

I was unable to post the video this through the blog. To see it go to this website: https://members.humaneventsonline.com/visitor.php?offer=2099 but since it was an audio video, Human Events posted the words, and here they are: “Victory at Last!” That was the headline on the November 15, 1980 issue of Human Events, celebrating the election of Ronald Reagan as President of the United States. Then, as now, I was the editor of Human Events — and for us the victory had seemed especially long in coming. After all, Reagan had been one of our most avid readers since 1961 (he called us his “favorite newspaper”), and we had been supporting his presidential aspirations since the mid-’70s — despite opposition from some Establishment naysayers who said he was “too old” and “too conservative” to be elected. And, oh, how it does my heart good in this Age of Obama to look at that historic Page One — now framed on my office wall — and relive that g

Thanksgiving Day 2010 to enthrall shoppers
India E-News - India Latest News Headlines Today

FORGET THE turkey and the football-if it’s Thanksgiving, why aren’t you shopping? U.S. retailers trying to squeeze every extra cent out of shoppers are opening forThanksgiving on Thursday, trying to get a jump on the holiday shopping season. Among the retailers that will open on Thursday are Wal-Mart Stores Inc’s U.S. discount stores, 850 of Gap Inc’s Old Navy stores, as well as some of its Gap and Banana Republic stores; and Sears Holdings Corp’s namesake department stores, and Kmart discount stores. For retailers, opening the stores amount to extra sales at the start of what is expected to be the best holiday shopping season since 2007 before falling home prices, tight credit and soaring unemployment forced consumers to cut spending. The holiday season is essential for many retailers, who depend on it for a big part of their profits for the year. But people shopping on Thursday will still only be a fraction of the 138 million the National Retail Federati
