Sreeeet is a lorikeet who is captured and taken from his home and family and ends up with an apartment-dwelling family in New York. The story, told from Sreeeet's point of view, explains why parrots are unhappy in captivity, and why they behave the way they do when trapped. My daughter and I learned about something we see every day -- the brightly colored parrots in the neighborhood pet store. They are no longer just another animal to look at and then walk by. In addition, this is just a good story. We laughed at the funny parts, swooned at the beautiful parts, and couldn't wait to see how it ended. Anderon "Carol C.Anderson" (California) - See all my reviews    When I bought my first copy and read it with my niece who is 10, she loved it and both of us were amazed at the beautiful artwork. This book is not a fantasy book, it's about a group of parrots, one of whom is trapped in the wild and taken for sale to another country but eventually winds his way back home. It gives children a taste of the problems encountered in the illegal wild bird trade which is an important dose of reality. I was so impressed I bought a second copy for my grandchildren, ages 5 and 10, and I highly recommend this book to anyone. It is beautifully done and educational at the same time. Carol C.
