Eredivisie round-up

Feyenoord held by lowly Willem II

December 5, 2010

A Ricky van Vaaren own goal five minutes from time saw Willem II claim only their fourth point of the season with a 1-1 draw against Feyenoord as they remain rooted to the bottom of the Eredivisie.

Feyenoord had gone ahead through Diego Biseswar's free-kick after 36 minutes and they appeared to be heading for their first away win of the season until Van Vaaren headed into his own net.

Goals from Rasmus Elm and Maarten Martens guided AZ Alkmaar to within five points of the Eredivisie summit with a 2-0 win at ADO Den Haag.

Elm coolly converted a contentious penalty five minutes before the break, with the referee having initially signalled for a free-kick following the challenge on Martens.

Martens himself then doubled the lead after 51 minutes with a shot from the edge of the area as the visitors moved level on points with Ajax in fifth.

FC Utrecht needed a last-minute goal from Jan Wuytens to edge past Heerenveen 2-1.

Roy Beerens' penalty handed Heerenveen a 24th-minute lead but Dries Mertens levelled ten minutes later. That was the way it remained until Wuytens scored with time almost up.

VVV-Venlo's clash with Roda JC was postponed because of an unplayable pitch. Referee Ed Janssen made the decision to call it off after heavy rain, and the Dutch FA will decide on a new date for the game in a meeting on Monday.
