Digitisation in the UK: the case for a UK framework

Background

In August 2004, the JISC and CURL Digital Content Creation & Curation Task Force issued an invitation to tender for a study of the current provision of digitised collections for researchers in the UK higher education sector.

Loughborough’s research uncovered deep fragmentation in all components of the digitisation infrastructure and made three clear recommendations:

  • Establish a UK framework for digitisation
  • Coordinate existing services
  • Investigate users’ needs archives and journals

Digitisation in the UK: the case for a UK framework
