The project will develop a new thematic cluster of Anglo-Saxon materials, bringing together four existing online publications. It will take the form of a web-based digital resource, articulated around the Anglo-Saxon charters as core material, through which the distinct perspectives, and the corresponding data and metadata embodied in each of the component projects will be made available.

Anglo-Saxon Cluster

The Anglo-Saxon Cluster is exploring the issues in integrating disparate Anglo-Saxon sources, bringing together four different existing online publications. Visit the project website to find out more about this exciting resource.

The Anglo-Saxon Cluster (ASC) will take the form of a web-based digital resource, articulated around the Anglo-Saxon charters as core material, through which the distinct perspectives, and the corresponding data and metadata embodied in each of the component projects will be made available.

The ASC will serve as a unified point of entry into the individual resources, allowing users to:

  • follow systematic thematically-based links between the projects
  • access a single platform for exploring different approaches to cross-searching
  • access union indexes generated across the data in each resource
  • see contextually appropriate data from each project in juxtaposition.

The aggregation of data will be dynamic, taking into account the fact that the component resources will continue to be updated and evolve.

It is expected that the project will have a dual impact: in the development of a technical framework for the integration of disparate resources; and as a possible model for gathering textual and contextual information around medieval charters. It will be supported indefinitely by King’s College London, through the Centre for Computing in the Humanities.
