Enhancing the VADS Image Collection

VADS has enhanced its online archive, as well as improving image searching, undertaking a range of user and evaluation studies and has promoted the archive’s use in teaching, learning and research.
This project seeks to enhance the VADS (Visual Arts Data Service) Image Collection by:
developing mechanisms to automatically share data with the growing Institutional Repository network and other data aggregators whose users require VADS images for their teaching and research
improving the academic user experience by (a) enhancing existing metadata to facilitate more systematic cross-searching of the collection, and (b) through controlled user studies allow for some level of user generated metadata including image annotation and tagging
facilitating greater academic use by giving users the ability to curate, annotate and publish their own image sets, thus stimulating use of the collection in new and potentially rejuvenating ways.
