JISC has been instrumental in pushing forward a strategy for the development of digital infrastructure for higher and further education through its funded projects and initiatives over a number of years, not least as provider of the national education network, JANET. Infrastructure provision takes many forms, from data centres, research and innovation support services, networked server environments, high performance, grid and cloud computing facilities, portals and search engines through to digital libraries and repositories.
