The province with the state capital is San José. It's Costa Rica's center for businesses and industry. The most preferred Province for beach lovers is Guanacaste. It is loaded with beautiful beaches and National Parks Reserves such as the popular Santa Rosa National Park. The Province with the longest Coast isPuntarenas which likely also has the largest selection of beach hotels and resorts. This Province stretches all way from Montezuma and Tambor to the border with Panamá.
The Province famous for its layed-back Caribbean life-style is Limón Tortuguero, often referred to as the Amazon of Costa Rica, is a must for one-time visitors. During your vacation don't miss the many National Parks here. They are some of the greatest treasures of Costarica. South of the town of Limon you will fall in love with the small fishing villages of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. These towns are also reknown for their National Parks and beautiful beaches.
One of the more colorful Provinces is Heredia. This Province goes from all way from San Jose City up to Nicaragua. Heredia is known for its pleasant cool weather and green countryside.
The two remaining Provinces are probably most well known for their volcanoes. Alajuela's Arenal Volcano with its famous Tabacon Hotspring and the beautiful La Paz Waterfalls are other musts for visitors.
Finally, we have the Province of Cartago. This most historic of towns is famous for its Turrialba and Irazu Volcanoes, its delicious potatoes, the cathedral "La Basilica" and the incredible white-water rafting trips.
