Hormone Disruptors Found in Wild Yangtze River Fish

A new Greenpeace study has revealed the widespread presence of hazardous chemicals in wild fish caught along the length of the Yangtze River. Some of these chemicals have been banned or are under restricted use in European Union nations as well as other countries. In China, however, these substances are completely unregulated, and what’s more, their production is growing every year.

Dalian Oil Spill Clean Up Impressive, but Massive Long-term Challenges Remain

After ten days of fieldwork and investigation in Dalian, Greenpeace concludes that while the cleanup effort has been timely and generally effective, Dalian – and China – faces considerable problems with its preventative measures against oil spills. Moreover, the government should immediately commission a comprehensive risk assessment of China’s oil infrastructure, as well as develop and improve national and regional oil spill contingency plans. Most importantly, China must reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.

Pristine Sea Bird Habitat Fouled by Oil

In our most recent investigation of the Dalian oil spill following eight days of fieldwork, Greenpeace has observed serious oil contamination in the Sanshan islands, a popular habitat for sea birds. What's more, there has been no sign of any clean-up effort in these islands, considered among Dalian’s most environmentally pristine areas.

Greenpeace Criticizes Companies for Evading Responsibilities

Greenpeace today expressed their disapproval of the companies responsible for the oil spill in Dalian, China, for shirking their responsibilities and taking inadequate action. Greenpeace calls upon these companies to immediately provide safety measures to the workers and fishermen contributing to the clean up. Greenpeace also calls upon the companies to furnish solid plans of compensation for the losses suffered by the seafood and tourism industries that have been devastatingly affected by this spill.
