Three people were arrested over the Labor Day weekend in separate incidents after they allegedly drove drunk with their children in their cars, according to law enforcement affidavits.
Eric Alexander Kelly, 29, of Palm Springs, was booked on Saturday. Akram Musa, 43, of Deerfield Beach, was booked on Sunday night. Both were charged with DUI and child neglect without great harm. And Jennifer Lee Dunn, 30, of Royal Palm Beach, was booked just after midnight Monday and is charged with DUI with property damage and child neglect without great harm.
Records show all three left jail: Kelly after posting $1,000 bond, Musa after posting $4,500 bond and Dunn on supervised release.
According to affidavits:
Just after midnight Saturday, a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputy saw Kelly's Ford Expedition traveling 55 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 1700 block of North Dixie Highway in Lake Worth. His sons, 11 and 13, were in the car.
About 9 p.m. Sunday, Dunn's 2002 Oldsmobile Alero collided with a vehicle at State Road 7 and Pioneer Road, south of Southern Boulevard. Her 6-year-old daughter was in the back seat. Neither Dunn, her daughter, or Edward Rodriguez, 58, the other driver, were hurt.
Dunn, who refused a breath test, said she doesn't believe she was impaired enough to merit the DUI charge.
"When I have my child in the car, I've never neglected her. Ever," Dunn said.
And Delray Beach police arrested Musa on Sunday after an officer saw him weaving on South Federal Highway near Lindell Boulevard, traveling at 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. His 8-year-old son was in the car, police said.
Musa told officers he'd had two drinks at a restaurant and two beers on the beach.
Jail records show Musa's blood alcohol level was measured at 0.184 and 0.187, more than double the 0.08 threshold to be driving drunk.
Musa and Kelly could not be reached for comment.
