Health Information Technology Funds in 2009 Stimulus
Description: The 2009 stimulus (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) included $19.2 billion in funding for health information technology. The act included $17.2 billion in incentive money to encourage doctors, hospitals and other providers to use electronic health records. The bill also included another $2 billion for the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Most of the spending will be spread over five years (fiscal years 2011-2015).
