new Y! map

Yahoo! Maps has released a new version now with global coverage, aerial maps, and hybrid views. Along with these features being added to the beta version of the mapping product, you can now access them through the Flash, Flex and AJAX Map components available through the Yahoo! Developer Network.

A quick note to any Flash developers currently using the component. You should be able to see the rest of the world with your existing components, but to take advantage of the new map view features you will need to download the new MXP.

Once you install it, you can make use of it by opening any existing projects and dragging an instance of the new component onto the stage. This will put the new component in your library and most likely trigger a request to replace the existing symbol. If you organized your component in a directory in your library, don’t forget to move the new component into that directory to trigger the replacement. After that any instances of your component should reflect the change. Don’t forget to remove that new instance from the stage if you don’t need it!

After that you can use the updated documentation to see how to interact with the new mapping tools.

Flash Lite03 Apr 2006 09:56 am

If you are interested in learning more about Flash Lite or just want to meet some of the folks from Adobe mobile, come ot tonight’s session of Mobile Monday. It is tonight at 7PM in Mountain View on AOL’s campus (specifically: AOL Building 12, 401 Ellis St., Mountain View, CA). Write a comment if you plan to be there, I’d love to meet up.

It does seem to be the evening for Flash Lite though. The Boston Mobile Monday group is talking about Flash Lite as well. Apparently once we get folks (the cats) shipped off to CTIA, the Flash Lite mice can play. ;)

Devices/Phones & Flash Lite02 Apr 2006 08:26 pm

EDIT: The woot for the U10 has ended

For those of you that want to work with Flash Lite 1.1, but don’t want to get a new phone, the Iriver U10 is a great device to get. You can upload your own content, or start hacking the main UI which is also done in Flash Lite 1.1.

Normally the U10 512MB is $200. Woot.com has it for $99! I’ve bought several things from them and all the transactions have gone well. The only trick is to buy one before they sell out. good luck! it is a fun device.
