Fares & Ticket Options

NJ TRANSIT fares to the Newark Liberty International Airport Station are based on distance traveled, similar to the cost of traveling to other rail stations. Only one-way tickets or monthly passes are available for travel to or from the Newark Liberty International Airport Station. These tickets/passes are magnetically encoded and allow passage through the fare gates at the station. An access fee is applicable and is included in the cost of your ticket to and from the station. Tickets for use at the Newark Liberty International Airport Station are available from ticket vending machines at stations.

One-Way Tickets can be used for one continuous ride between designated stations and are valid until used. If you are traveling to the airport and plan to return via AirTrain and NJ TRANSIT, we recommend that you purchase two one-way tickets prior to departing from your boarding station.

Monthly Passes save you approximately 30 percent compared to regular one-way fares and are valid for unlimited trips throughout the calendar month. Only monthly passes purchased with the Newark International Airport Station as the origin or destination will allow passage through the fare gate. If your monthly pass is for a destination other than the airport, you will be required to pay an access fee to pass through the station. See the Station Information section for ticket purchase locations.

If you work at the airport and plan to take NJ TRANSIT service regularly, we recommend that you purchase a monthly pass. The airport access fee is waived on NJ TRANSIT rail passes with the airport as the origin or destination. For your convenience, monthly passes can be automatically sent to your home or work site when you sign up for Quik-Tik. Plus, you may be able to purchase your monthly pass at work and use pre-tax dollars towards your commute. Have your employer call (973) 491-7600 for information on BusinessPass and other benefit programs.

Ticket Purchases On-Board Trains

We encourage you to purchase your ticket before boarding the train. Tickets purchased on board are subject to a $5 surcharge when a ticket vending machine or ticket agent is available. Customers boarding without tickets will be charged the regular fare to Newark Penn Station or North Elizabeth (depending on direction traveled) plus surcharge. Upon arrival at the Airport station, you will be required to pay the $5.50 access fee. Conductors can accept cash only (no bills over $20). Complete fare details, including Senior Citizen and Children's fare information can be found on rail timetables. Reduced fares do not apply to the $5.50 airport access fee.
