How Asian Americans are perceived is very often tied to how they are portrayed in the mass media. No one knows this better than
AAJC.
As chair of the
Asian Pacific American Media Coalition, we at AAJC work closely with the major networks -
NBC,
ABC,
CBS and
FOX - to ensure diversity both on and off camera.
We produce a nationally recognized
annual report card grading the networks on their diversity efforts. These efforts have yielded initiatives by the networks to heighten opportunities for Asian Americans, leading to more than a
20 percent increase for both regular and recurring roles for Asian Pacific Americans on prime-time television shows.
In 2009, AAJC was appointed by the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission as a member on the Federal Advisory Committee on Diversity for Communications in the Digital Age.
