Take Action to Repeal SB 1070

Take action to repeal SB 1070!  The law has created the political space for anti-immigrant and nativist voices throughout the country to be heard, and many states are already considering similarly misguided and oppressive legislation.

At the same time, the national outcry against SB 1070 has been widespread, and AAPIs must do their part to express solidarity with other immigrant and minority communities to express their outrage.  Already AAPIs have been stepping to the plate, but more has to be done.

National Response to SB 1070

Participate in Arizona Boycott

The Asian American Justice Center has joined national civil rights and labor groups to call for an economic boycott of Arizona.

The use of economic action in similar situations has been effective in the past. Through economic boycotts, governments, organizations, and people of conscience across the globe helped end apartheid in South Africa and moved Arizona to recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a rightful holiday.

Boycott participants are pledging not to hold major conventions, conferences or other special events involving significant travel to Arizona from out of state. Participants are also asking people to reconsider purchases of goods and services that may benefit Arizona.  Click here to read the boycott pledge.

AAJC engaged in this boycott after careful consideration, as any impact on the Arizona economy will be felt by many, including those who oppose SB 1070.  However, on balance, given the perniciousness nature of this law and the dangerous precedent it sets, we believe this action is needed for the greater good.
