23.56: That's all for tonight. Thanks for joining us and we'll be back in the morning.

23.55: Wigan boss Roberto Martinez tonight let rip into what he called the
"disgusting" speculation that has surrounded Maynor Figueroa.

"In the window there is a lot of talk and speculation, and it is a great moment for the authorities to look into how much we need it. The authorities should look into the necessity of the window and the agents who have this power and unhealthy control in the game, with the backing of a Premier League club, and that's disgusting.

"It gives the opportunity to certain agents to have a big say in the game. The power is given to the wrong people. We've had two insulting bids for the player, but he is not for sale. I've made it clear we're not going to sell any of our best players.

"If we're going to sell a player it will be at the right time for the club to collect some money and to reinvest for the next level."

Sunderland are understood to be the thwarted club.

23.40: Interesting stuff from Zoran Tosic in Bild. Having joined Cologne on loan from Manchester United, he says that, while there's no option for a permanent deal, "who knows what can happen in the summer?". He joined Cologne to get more first-team football.

23.00: The Mirror goes big with a story we'd heard on the grapevine - Anderson is AWOL, having left Manchester United to go back to Brazil, and is trying to negotiate a deal with Vasco De Gama.

22.50: if you were following the Villa-Arsenal match, you may have noticed Nicky Shorey on the bench. Martin O'Neill's recalled him from Nottingham Forest due to an injury to Stephen Warnock, and that most likely means Forest's hopes of keeping him at the club for the promotion run-in are over.

22.45: Apologies for the break - back now. Here are some quotes from Milan general director Ariedo Braida about how striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar is going nowhere from Tuttomercatoweb.

"Huntelaar is staying here. Any discussion is superfluous. Arsenal? No, I repeat that the player is staying at Milan."

19.02 Brazilian midfielder Fabio Simplicio will swap Palermo for Roma, his club have confirmed. "Simplicio has an agreement with Roma. Once his contract here ends, he will play in the capital," sporting director Walter Sabatini told Radio Kiss Kiss.

17.51 The agent of highly-rated Crystal Palace striker Victor Moses expects a flurry of offers to come in now that the Eagles are in administration. Tony Finnigan said: "A lot of scouts were at Wolves on Saturday ... and some Premier League sides had an interest but that's not the same as making an offer. Now the club is in administration, clubs that were interested who maybe thought he was too expensive, can now [place] a modest [transfer fee] rather than £5m or £6 million."

17.16 BREAKING NEWS: Burnley have signed Leon Cort from Stoke City for £15 millon on a three-and-a-half year contract.

17.06 Soccernet understands Blackburn Rovers have joined West Ham United in the race to sign Benjani from Manchester City.

16.59 Manchester City misfit Robinho is edging closer to a return to Santos but a deal is not yet done, according to a source close to the Brazilian. "The deal with Santos is close, very close, but not concluded," the source told Soccernet.

16.47 Everton pair Lukas Jutkiewicz and John Ruddy have agreed deals to remain on loan at Motherwell until the end of the season.

16.31 Dirk Kuyt's agent claims he knows nothing about a link with Juventus... first we've heard of it too. "I know nothing of Juventus' interest," Robert Jansen told Calciomercato.

15.57 Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that midfielder Giovani dos Santos will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray.

15.30: Dinamo Moscow may have claimed they are about to sign Yossi Benayoun but Liverpool are adamant he will not be leaving Anfield in January. Who do we believe?

15.21: We have some slightly bizarre news arriving from Crystal Palace where the club's administrators have prevented Victor Moses from playing. They could net a windfall if he is sold and cannot risk an injury. He will be off in January then.

15.03: It is being reported that Portsmouth have signed former Arsenal forward Quincy Owusu-Abeyie on a loan deal from Spartak Moscow, although as yet there is no confirmation from the club.

14.55: There have been no shortage of Barcelona youngsters moving to England in recent years - with Cesc Fabregas chief amongst them - and now the latest crop of Catalan talents are being targeted by Premier League clubs.

Sport reports that Chelsea want Thiago Alcantara, Arsenal are tracking Israeli talent Gai Assulin while Everton and Blackburn want Jeffren Suarez. Amusingly, Tottenham are believed to be keen on signing Giovani dos Santos' brother, Jonathan, despite his sibling failing to make any impact and joining Galatasaray on loan earlier today.

14.25: Yildiray Basturk has been talking about his move to Blackburn and it appears a former Ewood favourite had something to do with it...

"I had contact with Blackburn for three months and I spoke to Tugay and he said it is a very good club and to come here and try the last few years. I played about 50 games for the national team with Tugay and he always told me how good a club Blackburn is."

14.06: We have another done deal in the Premier League with Burnley confirming the signing of goalkeeper Nicky Weaver. He joins the club on a six-month deal from Dundee United in the SPL.

13.43: Spanish daily As reports that Real Madrid are edging ever closer to signing Sergio Canales. Apparently a 4 million euro deal will be announced next week with Canales remaining at Racing Santander for next season.

13.31: If you want more information on the Tosic and Basturk deals, look no further...

13.23: A bit of excitement in the January transfer window, who would have expected that? We now have more news with Manchester City edging ever closer to the loan signing of Roma defender Marco Motta, according to reports.

13.14: BREAKING NEWS - Manchester United winger Zoran Tosic has joined Cologne on loan for the rest of the season after failing to impress at Old Trafford. It's getting busy now, finally.

13.10: BREAKING NEWS - Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of Turkey international Yildiray Basturk on loan from Stuttgart for the remainder of the season. We didn't see that one coming. Is that a good move for all concerned?

12.55: Reports in Holland claim Andwele Slory could be leaving Feyenoord. He was linked with Blackburn earlier in the month and we will try and follow this one up for you to see what's going on there.

12.35: There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's future, with Everton and Arsenal just two clubs linked with the striker, but it appears Milan have no intention of letting him leave in January.

"Huntelaar stays here, all talk is unnecessary," general manager Ariedo Braida said. "Arsenal? No, I repeat that the player remains at Milan."

12.21: Luis Jimenez hasn't made much of an impression at West Ham since his loan move from Inter and it now appears that Parma are hoping to convince him to return to Italy.

"Jimenez interests us," sporting director Pieto Leonardi told tuttomercatoweb. "In fact, I am heading to Milan to talk about a possible transfer."

12.07: There have been rumours that Portsmouth are sniffing around Tottenham's Giovani dos Santos but Avram Grant can give up as Galatasaray have announced on their official website that the player has joined them on loan until the end of the season. Frank Rijkaard managed Gio at Barca and clearly hopes to get the best out of him. He joins Jo, Elano, Harry Kewell and Lucas Neill at the club.

11:50: Nottigham Forest boss Billy Davies has revealed that he has enquired about bringing teen sensation Victor Moses to the City Ground. Forest are flying high in the Championship but it's thought Crystal Palace will be looking to offload the young striker to a Premier League club in order to maximise revenue.

11:46: Le Parisien are reporting that PSG have refused Le Mans' advances for Younousse Sankharé.

11:18: Germany international Thomas Hitzlsperger is reportedly looking for a new club after losing his starting spot at Bundesliga side Stuttgart. The former Aston Villa midfielder is looking for first-team football to improve hsi chances of getting in Joachim Low's World Cup squad.

11:16: According to several reports from Turkey, Galatasaray are chasing Kayserispor defender Ali Turan.

10:48: Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes he can persuade Franck Ribéry to extend his contract with the Bavarian club. "I am not so pessimistic," he is quotes as saying in the German press.

10:23: Spanish newspaper AS are saying that hot prospect Sergio Canales is moving ever closer to a move to Real Madrid. Seems like a solid career move for the striker, who obviously fancies the challenge of usurping Ronaldo, Raul, Higuain and Benzema.

10:08: L'Equipe are reporting that on loan Portsmouth striker Aruna Dindane is hoping to stay in the Premier League even if Pompey get relegated. The Ivory Coast striker is due to return to Lens at the end of the season but apparently Birmingham, Blackburn and Stoke are all in the hunt to sign him.

10:04: After another poor performance by Liverpool last night, Jones reckons it's time for Rafa Benitez to go, and thinks he should take a certain Brazilian midfielder with him. He says:

I really hope that Benitez does go to Juventus and that he takes Lucas with him..

10:00: Brazilian striker Ilan could be on his way to Montpellier after being released by St Etienne according to

Le Parisien
. the 29-year-old, who has scored only two Ligue 1 goals this season, is also being tracked by former club Sochaux.

09.52: Everton's Steven Pienaar has been linked with a move, but insists he does not know anything about reported interest from German side Bayern Munich.

09.27: Santos' Paulo Henrique has said that he’s not keen on heading to northwest England as part of a deal for Robinho. “I don’t want to play for Manchester City. I’d prefer to play for a big club in Europe such as Milan [presumably AC], Real Madrid or Barcelona” said the 20-year-old to Globo Esporte.

08.48: David Sullivan has told ESPNsoccernet this morning that he is fighting to get Eidur Gudjohnsen back to West Ham out of the clutches of Spurs. Sullivan said: “We thought we had him, but I am worried that he has ‘ducked’ on us. I am chasing it up as we speak.”

08.43: Tony Mowbray has revealed Celtic have not yet finished in the transfer market. "I am just trying to shape a team and you only get two opportunities to do it. I could sit on my hands and do nothing or I can get started. I don't think any manager is ever totally settled and happy,'' he said.

08.37: Mehdi Mahdavikia admitted the chance to play regular football was one of the main reasons behind his decision to join Steel Azin from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt .

08.31: Portsmouth have made bringing Tottenham's Jamie O'Hara back to the club on loan their top priority after finally having their transfer embargo lifted.

07.47: Pohang Steelers have boosted their attacking stocks with the purchase of Almir Lopes de Luna.

07.39: Juliano Belletti has revealed on Twitter Chelsea have blocked his chance of a move to Flamengo. Flamengo had prepared a two-year deal, but could not afford to pay a transfer fee and Belletti said: ''Chelsea FC said that they are not going to release me before the end of my contract, which expires in June 2010.''

07.27: The proposed move of South Korea international Ku Ja Cheol to Blackburn Rovers has been put on the backburner according to reports in Seoul.

07.00 Morning all, and a look at the papers today...

I truly hope that Man Cty do not allow Rubinho to leave - not because he can be a valuable asset to their chances of winning, but because this is just another example of a spoiled little child getting his way. It is a disgrace and a lesson that is very difficult to un-teach my children. I want them to learn the value of hardwork, persistence, and loyalty to those that believe in you. Instead, they are learning that they can get their way if they just complain loud enough and if they STOP TRYING!!!! Shameful really.

maybe liverpool will bring in jones with a swap for babel, i see it pointless to keep babel if he will just take a place on the bench, and if somewhere around 10m can be taken in.

Babel dont deserve Rafa's treatment. He is young, he has got talents.. sadly Babel is ruining his life staying under Rafa. Personally, I would leave if I was Babel.. regardless of where the club stands in the league, i wouldnt hesitate for a move.

Robinho was never fit for the premier league, to be honest, I don't think any brazilian is. They don't seem to adapt to the physicality of the league. In Robinho's case, let him rot on the bench!!!

£15 Million for Leon Cort. I knew prices were inflated but wow...

Posted by Bad 3 days, 3 hours ago

I doubt 15 million was spent on Cort...

Basturk is helpful in the experience department, but what about actually on the pitch? He hasn't featured for 1.5 seasons (2 starts, 4 subs including Cup games), so is this a player that is prepared to step in and make a difference at arguably the highest level of European play? It makes headlines, it makes some sense to add the star power, but I think it will have little impact on Blackburns relegation battle.

Posted by Jay 3 days, 2 hours ago

Basturk, while bringing a wealth of experience, does not bring much else to Blackburn's relegation battle. He has not been a regular player for 1.5 seasons (2 starts, 4 subs including cup games), and Big Sam expects him to be able to run out in arguably the highest level of European soccer? I think this is a good publicity/news story, somewhat good for his experience, but will have little impact on the Rovers hopes of staying afloat in the Premiership.

The denial by Kuyt's agent in regards to a Juventus move for his client probably was in response to rumors about Rafa taking the Juventus job. After Juventus lost to Roma on Saturday, Ferrara is expected to be sacked very soon. Rafa, due to his problems at Liverpool, has been one of the most mentioned names linked with the Juve job if Ferrara were to be sacked.

The Kuyt deal is out of nowhere, but from what I hear its probably due to speculation on Rafa's future as well.

Sunderland wanted Salvador, but I don't know what's going to happen after he was shot...

Hope you get well soon Cabanas! =]

Leon Cort in a 15 million pound move!? I wondered how a guy I'd never heard of could be involved in such a big money move between two small clubs...until I read elsewhere it was for 1.5 million. Scarey. For a minute I thought I would have to spend even more time watching and reading football than I already do.

i have only two questions for arsenal fans and wenger in particular. could what i saw in bendtner last night be what wenger has been making us believe that we indeed have a striker coming? he says that he didnt see anybody better than what he has, well could be! how many strikers just within division two could offer more than what bendtner does? lets be careful with wengers dealing in transfer market. there is something fishy going on. he deserve our support but he too needs to know that our desires should be factored in his principles. one thing am damn sure of though harsh but true, arsenal as a club may stumble for a mile if wenger leaves but will pick. however, i dont know what may happen if fans fail to support the club.
