Top French side Lyon will provide the glittering centrepiece for Nottingham Forest's pre-season programme of matches.

The Champions League semi finalists will visit The City Ground on Wednesday July 28 (7.30pm) for a friendly that will whet the appetite of the Forest faithful.

Forest Operations Manager Brandon Furse said today: "It is a real coup to attract one of Europe's top clubs. I am sure it will create a lot of interest among our supporters and in the city generally."

Lyon were runners-up to Marseille in the French Ligue 1 last season but they won the title for a record-breaking seven times between 2002-08.

They made a major impact in last season's Champions League, defeating Real Madrid on their way to the last four where they lost out to Bayern Munich.

Lyon's arrival in Nottingham will also revive memories of their meeting with Forest in the 1995-96 UEFA Cup when The Reds won through on a 1-0 aggregate in a third round tie.

A Paul McGregor goal earned Forest victory at home and Frank Clark's side produced a spirited performance in the second leg, which ended goalless.
