Pesamino back on top of the Sevens charts
IRB Sevens Player of the Year Mikaele Pesamino finished the 2009/10 World Series with 56 tries

For the second time in his career, Samoan flyer Mikaele Pesamino has finished an IRB Sevens World Series as the season's top try-scorer.

Three years ago Pesamino scored 43 and his personal haul this season of 56 is the highest any player has scored in a year since Fiji's Vilimoni Delasau scorched over for 83 in the inaugural 1999/2000 Series.

It is the fourth time that a Samoan has finished top of the try-scoring charts, David Lemi and Timoteo Iosua having also top-scored in a season.

Pesamino's accomplishments this season also helped him land the IRB Sevens Player of the Year Award, the first of the IRB Awards to be awarded for 2010 in association with Emirates Airline.

"I wanted to be the top try scorer this year and I wanted to be the Player of the Year and I feel great, I feel happy, not only for me but also for my team mates, my family all the way from Samoa. They pray for us, they cheer for us, and also our fans, our younger players, this is our best gift for them for our Independence Day next week," said Pesamino on also receiving the prestigious IRB Sevens Player of the Award for 2010.

"Our Prime Minister said that we would have a national holiday if we won the Series, and we'll celebrate, we'll enjoy tonight and this is our best gift to our people."
