Desiree Rogers, the former White House social secretary who "left" to seek greener pastures after a
major security faux paux occurred under her watch, was recently hired by
Johnson Publishing Co., the owners of
Jet and
Ebony magazines, as a consultant.
Rogers, who is known for her love of haute couture and media exposure, will join the ranks of Ebony's newly hired editor-in-chief Amy Dubois Barnett.
No specific details have been released about the consulting duties, but a Johnson Publishing spokesperson stated that Rogers will help with corporate strategy.
After two posers, Tareq and Michaele Salahi, gained entry into the White House last year for a State Dinner and got too close for comfort to President Barack Obama, all eyes fell on Rogers. She oversaw the evening's planning, remained mum about her role in the breach and the Secret Service director took the public hit. Soon afterward, though, Rogers, after much public hoopla, announced that she was going to seek employment in the private sector, because she "likes meritocracies."
Rogers was replaced by Washington insider Julianna Smoot.

The Black Community needs a transfusion but not just "Blue Bloods." It's great to see Blacks like President Obama and friends advance and thrive, but they don't represent the full range of Blackness in the community as a whole. I'm thinking Desiree represents just one aspect of what it means to be Black. For Johnson Publishing, they need to go beyond this to serve the community. I hope Desiree doesn't serve as a barrier to communication because she doesn't represent 5% of the community. Think larger and grow Johnson publishing. Go find your roots in Back of the Bus. That's where the action is and the butt is still getting kicked.

Yes. Yes. Yes....no disrespect but she represents the same old the same old. And why do black people buy into this? I haven't read Jet/Ebony in years - nor do I intend to. The NYT has a broader representation of black people than they. What does that tell you - in 2010?

Another one of those pay offs, she should have went to work for the first black President, Bill Clinton.

agree 1000% let a white person get a top job like that and they holler racism but in this case it's ok they just use that race card when it's to their advantage

Paul Revere, it appears you fell off the horse.
I agree with the first part of your post. But in this part:
"AND HOW DID HELEN THOMAS GET FIRED FOR SAYING WHAT WE ARE ALL THINKING, DID WE ALSO LOOSE OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH, I MUST HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP ALONG THE WAY.ONE IF BY LAND TWO IF BY SEA"
HOW can you be so arrogant as to saying "What we are ALL thinking"? I do not think the way Helen does on Israel. Who is this ALL?

If Helen Thomas were in fact fired "for what we are all thinking" then there must have been more people thinking the other way. However, she was not fired, she resigned. (And who is the "we" to whom you are referring?) Also, you are dead wrong: Helen Thomas most certainly enjoys freedom of speech because she said what she said and it was widely reported in full--there was no censorship. How is that not freedom of speech? Denial of freedom of speech refers to government suppression of free speech and no one in government suppressed Thomas' speech. Nor did anyone in the private sector suppress it and we know this because her words were fully and widely disseminated. In this case, she made certain statements which upset many people, and for good reason. And, because she is free to speak as she wishes, so are those who take issue with what she said likewise free to comment upon what she said. Understand?

And three if you're an idiot! Listen, there is no such thing as "just an American." Everyone in this country is a descendant of someone who was an immigrant at some point -- except, of course, the Indians -- remember? They are the people from whom the land now known as America was stolen and Black people were bought to do the hard labor in building the land known as America. Then the Indians were banished to some of the land known as Reservations and Blacks were denied rights and privileges as human beings in the land known as America. Meanwhile, "immigrants" continued to come from Europe to the New World and suddenly they were known as Americans. So, you are no more an American as anyone else. All of our forefathers came here from somewhere else whether it was by choice or by payment. Everyone loves to talk about their heritage and how their great-grandpappy came here with $1 and became successful but let the Black man want to acknowledge his heritage and now it's problem. I find that quite comical...and disturbing. Folks who have the most money and own just about everything in this country tend to have "selective memory."
