Energy Assistance Program serves record number of households      May 25, 2010
Minnesota's Energy Assistance Program will set another record this heating season as the number of low-income households served continues to rise above the record of 153,721 set last year. To date, more than 160,000 households have been served this program year, according to the Minnesota Department of Commerce's Office of Energy Security, which administers EAP.

Health Department releases annual report of drinking water in Minnesota      May 25, 2010
Minnesota's public water supply systems are tested on a regular basis for bacteria, nitrate and other inorganic chemicals, radiological elements, and up to 118 different industrial chemicals and pesticides. The MDH annual report is based on the results of monitoring under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act for the past year.

Click it or Ticket campaign May 24-June 6      May 25, 2010
The campaign marks one year since the state's primary seat belt law became effective June 9, 2009, allowing law enforcement to stop and ticket motorists or passengers solely for belt violations. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) is coordinating the effort.

Minnesota ranks fourth in nation as bike friendly state      May 25, 2010
This is the third year that the League of American Bicyclists has awarded Bicycle Friendly State designations. The awards announcement coincides with preparations for Minnesota's Bike/Walk Week activities June 5-11, 2010-dates set aside to encourage bicycling as a healthy, environmentally- friendly transportation alternative for commuting to work or school and safe bike riding in general.

Deployment preparations for 2700 Minnesota troops      May 24, 2010
The U.S. Department of Defense announced the alert of approximately 2,700 Minnesota National Guard Soldiers to prepare for deployment. This would be the largest deployment of Minnesota National Guard Soldier since World War II. Approximately 2,600 soldiers from Minnesota deployed with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division in 2005.

Mn/DOT marks MnPASS Express Lanes five-year anniversary      May 24, 2010
As the Minnesota Department of Transportation marks the fifth-year anniversary of the MnPASS Express Lanes, the agency noted that the lanes achieved their highest ridership last year when customers took more than one million trips on the I- 394 system.
