Senior Account Executive

We are currently seeking an Senior Account Executive to join the West Coast Sales team in Los Angeles. This is a great opportunity to have a direct impact on the day-to-day business of a leading interactive media organization.

The ideal candidate will have 5 years+ of online media sales experience, specializing in the entertainment/video game space. They will have a comprehensive rolodex composed of both agency and client direct relationships that represent key decision makers in the media buying process. A knowledge of video game marketing cycles is a must.

This person will use industry knowledge to develop advertising and promotional programs for clients, and possess excellent communication skills with the ability to build and sell creative solutions to clients.

Freelance Camera Operator

We're currently seeking an experienced Freelance Camera Operator to work with our Video Department and be responsible for the shooting of UGO video content for the web. This position's core responsibility will be to shoot video features, as well as coordinating external freelance shoots when necessary. This person should possess a variety of video production skills, have great communication abilities, be organized and have a love for all things entertainment related.

Job Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Ability to deliver final projects in requested formats by the deadlines provided.
  • Ability to (if necessary) work closely with producer and various members of UGO.
  • Responsible for providing and setting up camera and audio equipment
  • Collaborate with producers to maintain consistent look and feel for the assigned project
  • Responsible for fulfilling company requests for content requested delivery formats based on deadlines provided

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Familiarity with video, and sound formats
  • Ability to distinguish subtle differences in audio and video quality
  • Must be willing to work long days and to travel locally if necessary
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in both team and solo environments

Editorial Intern

We're currently seeking undergraduate interns to join our Editorial team on the frontlines of fantasy entertainment.  This is a great opportunity for a prospective writer/editor to learn the daily responsibilities and skills of a crack Editorial team for an Enterprise-class website. 

Interns will run a track of apprenticeship under our expert channel editors, learning the publish process from budget meeting inception, through search engine optimization and social media execution. The program will run from June 2 - August 14, 2010.

IMPORTANT: This is an unpaid position. Only current students available for course credit need apply.

Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Assist editors in all facets of content production
  • Assemble photo galleries from studios, wire services and various outlets
  • Building news and feature articles with supplied assets, learning best practices and valuable search engine optimization training
  • Transcriptions, some Photoshop work and social media outreach
  • Write the occasional post incorporating everything you've learned
Skills:

PHP/Perl Developer

We're currently seeking a full-time strong Perl developer who will be an integral part of a development team building our next generation web-publishing platform.  This platform utilizes Perl, HTML: Mason and MySQL.  Additionally, there is some legacy content that requires knowledge of PHP coding. The ability to quickly understand requirements, documentation and contribute code towards various project deliverables in a timely and professional manner is required.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily objectives and challenges of the development team. 
  • Perform individual coding responsibilities as well as be responsible for guiding and mentoring a team of 4-6 more junior coders.  
  • Assist engineers with daily implementation issues (i.e. code).
  • Taking initiative beyond minimum expectations to determine long-term successes of the company
  • Provide guidance and mentoring regarding best practices and software industry standards, code design and implementation.
  • Guide the selection of software development tools and usage. Evaluate third party tools and libraries. 
  • Perform code reviews.
Requirements:  
  • At least 5 years experience developing web-based applications, including working with session data storage, relational databases, caching, and inter-process communication.
  • Experience with website development and web-based application development.
  • Significant knowledge of and experience in Perl programming. Exposure to standard Perl idioms, the ability to create your own class hierarchies, and familiarity with CPAN.
  • Understanding of professional software development processes. Including familiarity with the cycles of requirements definition, issue tracking, version control, automated testing, deployment and maintenance and Agile develop methodology
  • Linux/UNIX, Subversion or similar version control, HTML / CSS, basic JavaScript, MySQL, XML/XSL experience
  • The ability to think and make decisions rapidly based on business criteria, not exclusively on technical priorities, is required.
  • Clear and articulate communication, both written and spoken
  • Experience with HTML:Mason and mod_perl a huge plus
  • Minimum experience of 2 years with PHP required.
  • Experience with structured code libraries, frameworks, and open source projects, such as PEAR, Zend Framework (or similar), open-source blogging/CMS platforms, Smarty Templates
