About us

ODI (www.odi.org.uk) aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.

We are looking for a senior Research Fellow with world class knowledge to lead one or more themes within the Humanitarian Policy Group research strategy, focusing particularly on the theme ‘Civilian Insecurity and Protection’.

Our Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) is one of the world’s leading teams of independent researchers and information professionals working on humanitarian issues. It is dedicated to improving humanitarian policy and practice through a combination of high-quality analysis, dialogue and debate.

Recent highlights include:

  • Innovative research work on the linkages between protection and livelihoods analysis and programming
  • Influential statistical trend analysis of civilian aid workers’ insecurity
  • Co-leadership of ODI’s successful meeting series on Development, Security and Transitions in Fragile States

You will join a dynamic team, and will support the Head of HPG in strategy development, fundraising, research and public affairs, helping to drive a multidisciplinary and innovative programme.

About the job:

  • Research and policy advisory work: conducting high-quality applied research
  • Fundraising: attracting funds through bids and marketing, including the development of a substantial personal research portfolio; and
  • Public affairs: disseminating and promoting the programme’s work and ideas.

About you

You will have:

  • a proven ability to undertake first-class research, and policy advisory and public affairs work capable of informing and inspiring humanitarian policy at international and country level;
  • extensive knowledge of humanitarian response programming, particularly security and protection issues;
  • strong analytical skills, a capacity to write clearly and excellent organisational and communication skills;
  • a strong publication record;
  • demonstrated ability to win work and attract funds;
  • the ability to work as part of a team and support the Head of HPG in people and project management.
