ToryDiary reports that David Cameron has pledged that in the future there could be no change in Prime Minister without a new election occurring within six months. I hope there can an urgent clarification from CCHQ indicating that the ToryDiary story misrepresents David Cameron's position or that this is a personal aspiration of David Cameron's, rather than a pledge on which the Conservative Party is fighting the General Election and that the Party would be committed to introducing thereafter.
Pending such a clarification, I shall offer no further comment at this stage, and I would urge other explicitly Conservative-aligned commentators to do likewise for the moment, given that we are in a Election campaign. Perhaps Conservative-leaning bloggers and journalists can offer their provisional opinions whilst we await this CCHQ clarification, which I hope can be produced very soon.
