David Cameron confirmed yesterday that Britain should "get ready" and prepare to see "a lot more" of his wife, Samantha, on the campaign trail during the general election.
The news comes after the 38-year-old creative director of Smythsons has given her first ever interview to Sir Trevor McDonald for his ITV1 profile of the Tory leader (to be broadcast this Sunday) in which she will talk about their relationship and say that "I can honestly say, that I don't think in all that time he has ever let me down."
Mrs Cameron - who has been dubbed SamCam - has previously let it be known that she intends to keep working if her husband becomes Prime Minister, but I gather that during the election campaign we can expect to see her out on the road for about two days a week.
She will play a particular role in championing the social action projects which the party and candidates have been undertaking over the Parliament.
I look forward to seeing more details from her interview in advance of the broadcast on Sunday and wonder in the mean time if her involvement in the election campaign will in any way be at the expense of shadow culture minister Ed Vaizey, who swiftly retracted his recent baseless suggestion that Mrs Cameron may have voted Labour.
