Here is the image (click it to enlarge) which the Richmond and Twickenham Liberal Democrats have used on their website in the last week to accompany a story accusing both the local Conservatives and a local campaign group of lying about a development issue. The story remains on the website, but the image has since been removed.
Nonetheless, the PPC for Twickenham, Deborah Thomas, has now written to her opponent, the incumbent MP Vince Cable, to complain about the matter and demanding answers to the following series of questions:
- Who wrote the article?
- Who authorised the article's publication?
- Is anyone involved in the writing, research or publication of the article employed by you?
- Is anyone involved in the writing, research or publication of the article employed at any cost by the taxpayer?
- Was Cllr Wilson involved in the writing, research or publication of the article?
- Do you admit that much of the article’s content is not based on truth?
- Do you believe that this kind of campaigning has a place in the politics of Richmond Borough? Is this your idea of “clean campaigning”?
- Did you obtain permission from the parents of the child involved to use their image?
- Did you pay for the use of the child’s image and if so, did that payment come out of taxpayers’ funds?
- Furthermore, has any of the Communications Allowance been used to finance the article in any way shape or form?
- What disciplinary action will be taken over the named individuals responsible for the article’s publication? Please provide names and what action will be taken.
- As the figurehead of your local party, will you issue a public apology for the offence this has caused?
We will let you know as and when he responds.
