Back to the Future
Being an Oklahoma City history enthusiast, I wish I could have met Dean A. McGee. Or Neal Horton. Or George Shirk. Or have gotten the chance to see the I.M. Pei model with my own eyes.
One of those dreams is about to come true.

Look at the photo friends… I’m not teasing here, I’m pretty much telling you what has me completely geeking out today!
You get to see a nice model for the new downtown post C2S, MAPS III, Devon Tower, project 180, etc…?
Well Steve, considering urban renewal is back in full force, I don’t doubt that we’re all going to feel connected to the 1960s in no time.
I like how excited Pei looks. That is passion…regardless of how poorly things worked out for him on the OKC project…
That’s very cool Steve. Even if Pei’s planning theories were terribally flawed, he was a brilliant man. Enough of the model was built in real life and it would be exciting to see and be reminded of the complete “vision.”
Will there be an opportunity for the public to see it? I’ve built many an architectural model, and I really want to look at this one.
The model was on display for years in the lobby of one of the Civic Center buildings. I remember seeing it as a kid in the 70′s and being fascinated by it– wondering when the many newly vacant lots nearby were going to get built back up.
You’re gonna have a seance?
