- Lindsey Vonn: A star in the making
Vancouver, British Columbia » Normally, skier Lindsey Vonn would be as annoyed as anybody at the series of delays caused by bad weather at the Vancouver Olympics.
Not this time.
The part-time Park City resident is getting more time to heal the badly bruised shin that is jeopardizing her gold-medal aspirations, now that the women's super-combined has been postponed due to rain and poor snow conditions at Whistler Mountain. The race has been rescheduled for Thursday, making the women's downhill on Wednesday the first chance for Vonn to win a medal.
Officials have scheduled women's downhill training for today, but that still will give Vonn two more days of recovery time than she would have had with the original race and training schedule. She skipped the opening ceremony on Friday night to rest.
"I'm lucking out pretty heavily because of all the cancellations," she said. "Normally I would be disappointed, but for my shin I think this is the best possible scenario. This gives me quite a bit more time to rest up and heal. Obviously, I'm looking forward to running the course, but at this point, as much rest as I can get on my leg will be great."
The men's downhill that was called off Saturday has been set for Monday morning, ahead of the regularly scheduled men's super-combined on Tuesday.
