This was a fantastic chance for ordinary members of the public to meet the next Prime Minister and ask him direct and tough questions. Entry was free and it was a genuine public meeting and was not stuffed with Tory activists asking soft questions; indeed they were excluded from the event and met him separately. Mr Cameron wasntroduced by Aberconwy Conservative's candidate - Guto Bebb - the only part of the event that was not filmed!

A personal statement from Guto Bebb -
" I know; after the European Elections did you really want more politics? However, I aspire to be your next MP and I understand that working for the people of Aberconwy is not something that you do in the four weeks prior to an election. In my view it demands commitment and hard work and that is why I am out on the doorstep again this week.
Politics is not highly regarded at this point in time and that is no surprise. We have a tired and failing government coupled with a discredited Parliament populated by some politicians who have behaved in an unacceptable manner. Despite this I still believe that politics can make a difference. I have been self-employed since I was 23 and I appreciate how hard people need to work to pay their bills, raise a family and attempt to plan for their futures.
Politics does matter, and the following are some examples of issues that only a new Government can deal with;
- The UK will borrow £175billion pounds this year alone. One hundred and seventy five thousand million pounds! That is more than the entire amount of income tax collected each year in the UK. In 2010/11 we will borrow even more. Do we have the right to rack up these debts expecting our children and grandchildren to pay them on our behalf?
- Spending on the NHS has increased by 300% since 1997. Things have improved – I know since my family have benefited from the services of Ysbyty Gwynedd and Alder Hay and I am grateful. But are things three times better that in 1997? Do we need armies of administrators earning £50k, £100k and even more? The NHS has improved but there is also substantial waste that needs to be addressed.
- What happened to our pensions? In 1997 we had the largest Private Sector Pension Savings in Europe. They have been taxed and attacked by Labour with over £100billion lost through tax changes. We now have two types of workers. Those in the Public Sector where all taxpayers fund their generous pensions and the vast majority who work in the Private Sector who will have a state pension of £90 per week with an average of some £40 on top from their own savings. Is this fair? Should the poor pay for the privileges of a few?
- In my view we need to put North Wales back on the map. Cardiff seems to regard us as little more than a nuisance. The Assembly must work for all of Wales and not just Cardiff Bay and the M4 corridor.
Finally some personal details:
I was the Conservative Candidate in 2005 when I managed, with your support, to substantially reduce the Labour majority. Labour now has a majority of less than 500 over me in this constituency.
I have been married to Esyllt for sixteen years and we have five children. I was born and brought-up in north Wales with both my parents hailing from Bangor. I have worked in the area all my life. I believe that we need a champion for north Wales – not another politician that will defend the status quo. When the election is called I would be delighted if you could offer me your support."
