The Process
A panel of six party members, chaired by Chris Platt, chairman of Esher & Walton Conservative Association, will come up with a shortlist of six to be approved by the executive.
The candidates will then go up against each other on the day of the open primary and the registered voters will then have the opportunity to choose the candidate.
The candidates will give a short presentation and there will be a mediator who will ask questions. They will also take questions from the floor and it will be decided on the day.
The winner will be the first contender to receive 50% of the vote – with the lowest ranked candidate eliminated after each round of voting.
Around 75,000 people living in the Esher & Walton constituency, which also includes Claygate, Cobham & Downside, Cobham Fairmile, Esher, Hersham North, Hersham South, Hinchley Wood, Long Ditton, Molesey East, Molesey North, Molesey South, Oxshott and Stoke D'Abernon, Thames Ditton, Walton Ambleside, Walton Central, Walton North, Walton South, Weston Green, will be eligible to vote if they pre-register with the party.
