Downing Street expects Baroness Ashton to be confirmed

Downing street has confirmed to PoliticsHome that Baroness Ashton is expected to be confirmed as EU High Representative by the end of the evening

Number 10 has confirmed to PoliticsHome that they expect Baroness Ashton to be confirmed as EU High Representative by the end of the evening.

When asked whether Baroness Ashton's appointment was "a done deal", the Prime Minister's spokesman said:

"Yes. She is the nominee of the PES group. She's the only nominee for that role. So hopefully by the end of the evening it will be confirmed."

If confirmed, Baroness Ashton will leave her current post as EU trade commissioner - a role she took up after it was vacated by Peter Mandelson.

In 2007, she was appointed as Leader of the House of Lords by Gordon Brown.

EU High Representative - just a small progression from leader of the Hsuse of Lords and then EU trade Commissioner.

How the hell can this woman whom most of us have never heard of in public life, get these three plum jobs without having to put herself forward to the will of the people?  Everything that Brown and his conspirers in Europe touch leaves you with a distinct smell of fish!

I used to think I was just on the side of the Euro sceptic arguement regarding Europe - as a member country, but only signed up for the minimum parts of the treaty and a jealous guard of our opt outs.

However I am rapidly coming to the stage (thanks to Brown and Blair and their machinations), that what we need is to give the people a voice on whether we stay in or get the hell out of that corrupt organisation who have not signed their accounts off for about 12 years.
